Total Solar Eclipse, July 2009
Astrologically, this Total Solar Eclipse of July 21 (22, depending on where you are), 2009, will have a major effect on just about everyone. With the sun being eclipsed at the 29th degree of Cancer, it’ll have the most impact on those with Sun and Ascendant in that sign but everyone will feel it in the Cancerian area of home, intimate relationships, and emotions. The 29th degree is generally associated with culminations, spirituality, martyrdom, and dramatic rescues. With it so close to the 1st degree of Leo, expect a lot of emotional drama with this one, with news and events in the personal, domestic realm that will shake us up for years to come. Specifically look to some way of “being” in relationships (or the relationships themselves) shutting down and making room for new beginnings. Breathe deeply, friends! This will be bumpy for some of you, especially since this total solar eclipse is sandwiched between two lunar (full moon) eclipses. Occurring at 9:35 PM Central Time on the 21st, this total solar eclipse won’t be seen here in Northwest Florida. The area of the world that is most in its shadow will feel it the strongest, and that will be across Asia, Indonesia, and the Pacific Ocean. However, the length of the eclipse is said to forecast the number of years we’ll feel its impact. In this case, for over three years, or into 2012. Eclipses have repetitive patterns, if you know where to look. Understanding these patterns and how they parallel one another can be useful in figuring out what’s going on in your life and where to put your attention now. The July 2009 Total Solar Eclipse repeats the Saros 136 pattern, a series of eclipses spanning 1262.11 years. The last in this series occurred on July 11, 1991. Think back to that time in your life, if you’re old enough to remember. The situation in your life now may be a reflection of that time (it will be in some way) so that you’re once again faced with the same situation, same choices, same oppression. You’ve had almost two decades to gain new experience to make it better this time. What were you facing then that held you down? Have you released it so you can find a happier life this time around? For me, I distinctly remember feeling boxed in and trapped, being forced into a mold I didn’t want to be, choosing to sacrifice my heart’s true desires to make someone else happy. For me, it was a time of taking on the blame and the responsibility for things that were either not entirely my fault or not my fault at all. It set the stage for a lot of misery over the next few years as I gave up my happiness rather than courageously take steps to get what I really wanted. If you haven’t made changes to the patterns that held you down, held you back, or held you in place back in the summer of 1991, then this total solar eclipse will be a wake-up call for you and you may find it hitting you even harder than it did back then. Look specifically this time for ways to feel freer and happier in the very personal areas of your life—or the areas that you take most personally. For a better idea of where this Total Solar Eclipse will most affect your life, look at your astrological chart to see where which planets you have that are between 27 degrees Cancer and 2 degrees Leo. For more understanding on what it means if you have an eclipse conjunction with one of the planets in your chart, review Eclipse Conjunction: A Pluto-Like Effect on your Planets . Look also at which house the eclipse occurs in. For example, for me, it’s in my Fifth House, which represents children, romance, creativity, and self-expression. Happy researching, and remember that even when the shadow hides your light, the light is still there. Lorna Tedder
