Moon in Capricorn Rituals and Meditations: July 2009

The July Full Moon in Capricorn, aka the Buck Moon and sometimes called the Thunder Moon, occurs on July 7, 2009 at 4:22 AM Central time here in the Florida Panhandle. Last month’s Full Moon was about telling your story the way you want it to be, even if it's not always the way it's been. This Full Moon, I feel, is all about…dreaming the dream a little differently for a stronger, sturdier result in the physical. More on that….

Capricorn, an earth sign, is generally about practicality, business, and manifestation. It's solidity. It's bringing the airy ideas, watery emotions, fiery desires of previous moons into the physical realm, aka manifesting or getting the results of your prayers or the fruition of your magick.

The interesting thing about this Full Moon in Capricorn is that the emotional representative that is the moon is in oh-so-physical Capricorn while the Sun is in the emotional, nurturing, maternal sign of Cancer. Very opposite to an emotional Pisces girl like myself! Last year, in 2008, this particular moon fell on the Summer Solstice and was very powerful at the first degree of Cancer. This moon, I believe, is always very powerful for the emotions because it's an excellent time to bring those secret desires into our physical reality--to send out our prayers to make matters of the heart happen!

This year will be a very, very powerful time for that because we have a lunar eclipse occurring on the same day from 3:33 to 5:44 AM Central time. Eclipses are like having rocket motors attached to your intentions when there's something you want to manifest. (For a better understanding of how eclipses affect you personally, review Eclipse Conjunction: A Pluto-Like Effect on your Planets.)

This Full Moon in Capricorn and eclipse will be interesting for a few more reasons though it's not the major drama we'll see at the solar eclipse on July 22. Consider this a prelude to getting those wishes stirred into moving into reality. We still have a conjunction of Jupiter (expansion), Neptune (idealism/spirituality), and Chiron (healing) in visionary Aquarius to give this Full Moon in Capricorn an added push.

This is a serious moon, with lots in retrograde right now--that Jupiter/Chiron/Neptune conjunction as well as Uranus and Pluto--while Mercury, Venus, Mars, and restrictive Saturn are moving forward. So...lots of looking inward while finally moving forward again with those dreams.

For those of you who routinely read my suggestions for meditations, you know how this works. I share this unraveling of images I have just before a New Moon, Full Moon, and/or Eclipse and you’re welcome to use what makes sense to you. You are welcome to use whatever you wish here in your work with this Full Moon in Capricorn.

For most of last year, I’ve been following this “story” of a river of emotions connected with Moon phases–everything from bridges over rivers to the structure that holds the river in its banks, to surfing the river, to becoming the river, to rising above the river in a parasail…all taking me “around the riverbend” to a beautiful new vista that is lush and green. For those of you who know me personally, you’ve watched in amazement and then horror at how some of these influences have played out in my life and how I’ve been healing from some heartbreaks and reached a place of happiness again.

Thus far, the past year’s meditations have included Bridges, Riverbanks/Structures, Surfing/Sailing, Parasailing, Becoming the River, Rocks, Rebuilding the Riverbanks, Covered in Healing Mud, Washing off the Mud and Dancing Naked in the Sunlight, Beginning to Play in the River Again, Full-on Splashing in the River, Speeding around in Fun but Directionless Circles in my little boat, Picking up a Passenger or two as we zip forward, Deciding to Go Ashore, Discovering that my Sword of Truth (speaking it) unlocked a special enchanted forest ahead, and deciding the reality of the fire-dancer that is the story how we choose to tell it.

Which brings us to this month’s Full Moon in Capricorn/Lunar Eclipse meditation: In this meditation, I am still in the darkness of this enchanted forest, small lights around me, and the fire-dancer before me at the bonfire. I am here among friends but I barely remember them at the moment. They are caught up in their own stories as we each have been telling our own story as if it were physically present to give it the fire to bring it to fruition in the near future.

I close my eyes as I whisper my story. When I open them, I am no longer in the forest. I am in sunshine. Sparkling sunshine. My eyelids flutter and I feel the warmth of the sun, the light in my eyes, and the gentle sway beneath me. I am not on solid ground but back in my boat on the emotional currents of the river. I am not going anywhere, not yet. The boat simply rocks in the sunshine as I lay my head in the crook of the arm of this dream beside me.

This is not quite the dream I'd had in mind when I set out on this adventure. I am dreaming it a little differently now. Or am I dreaming at all? Is this a memory of a future that's coming? Or is it here now, just outside the night of this forest I've been exploring where I'd thought I would recover my dreams?

I close my eyes again, see the brightness of sun through my closed lids, and know that whether I open my eyes or not, the sun is still there. Even when I do not see it, I know that it is still there. It's real. It's mine.

This Full Moon in Capricorn bids us to begin living the physical manifestation of this reality, even if we do not see it because it's night or our eyes are closed or it's raining or we're not even thinking about it. We just have to dream the dream a little differently.

What’s your dream? Let it be as real and present for you as the sun...regardless.

I wish you the best on this Full Moon in Capricorn,

Lorna Tedder
